#7 Wine of the World by Wine Spectator
The 2020 Produttori del Barbaresco was named the #7 Wine in Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2025. The 2022 is scoring even higher across critics — and this time, every single drop of Riserva-quality fruit went into this one bottle.

2022 Produttori del Barbaresco
They Didn't Make the $100 Riservas. They Didn't Make the $200 Don Fiorino. They Put ALL of It Into This Bottle.
In 2022, Produttori del Barbaresco made a decision that changes everything for the collector.
In most years, Produttori del Barbaresco bottles nine legendary single-vineyard Riservas — Rabajà, Montestefano, Montefico, Ovello, Muncagota, Asili, Pora, Rio Sordo, Pajé — wines that sell for $100+ per bottle and are among the most collected Barbarescos in the world. In exceptional years, they also produce the Don Fiorino, a $200+ Riserva blended from the best of the best. In 2022, they made none of them. Every single lot of Riserva-quality fruit from all nine crus was declassified into the straight Barbaresco. The wine you are looking at — for $49.97 — contains all of it.

Why This Matters
Nine Legendary Single-Vineyard Crus. Zero Riservas Bottled. All of It Went Into This Wine. It Shows.
In a typical vintage, Produttori del Barbaresco's nine Riserva bottlings — Rabajà, Montestefano, Montefico, Ovello, Muncagota, Asili, Pora, Rio Sordo, and Pajé — are among the most collected wines in all of Piedmont. They regularly score 95–98 points and sell for $100+ per bottle. The Don Fiorino, their crown jewel Riserva blend from the finest lots, commands $200+.
In 2022, none of those wines were made. Every single lot — the Rabajà fruit that typically scores JD 98, the Montestefano that earns WA 96, the Montefico that Galloni calls "magnificent" — was declassified and blended into the straight Barbaresco DOCG. The result is a $49.97 wine that contains the DNA of nine $100+ bottlings. As Jeb Dunnuck wrote: "All fruit going into the 2022 Barbaresco." As Galloni confirmed: "The inclusion of some juice from Riserva lots is a great help."

The Critics on the 2022 Barbaresco
|
|
Jeb Dunnuck
95 Points
"In 2022, the estate did not bottle any single-vineyard Riservas, with all fruit going into the 2022 Barbaresco. It pours a jeweled ruby red color and reveals a seductive yet very pure nose of cherry cordial, crushed roses, sweet herbs, and peppery spice. Medium-bodied, it has supple ripeness in the fruit yet wonderful clarity in its tannins and acidity, giving the wine excellent definition and balance. Drink 2026–2050." — Audrey Frick (Apr 2026)

Kerin O'Keefe
94 Points
"The straight 2022 Barbaresco from Produttori del Barbaresco is fragrant and refined, with aromas of blue flower, red berry, citrus and a balsamic whiff of eucalyptus. Surprisingly fresh and juicy for the hot, extremely dry vintage, it boasts flavors of tart red cherry, orange zest and star anise alongside taut, refined tannins that leave some grip on the finish." (Sep 2025)

James Suckling
94 Points
"Bright and overtly fruity, this is full of intoxicating violets, cinnamon, blood oranges and black cherries, expressing mint and balsamic depth. Full-bodied with a soft, smooth attack, dusty yet velvety tannins and brilliant acidity. The chocolaty finish shows licorice and a mouth-coating texture. Delicious and balanced." (Nov 2025)

Decanter
94 Points
"Violet, rose and dried herb scents over black cherry, raspberry and a touch of tar. Medium-bodied yet firm on the palate, its succulent red fruits are framed by fine tannins and fresh acidity. The clean and persistent finish shows floral, red-fruit and mineral nuances." — Lauren Mowery (Apr 2026)

93 Points
"The 2022 Barbaresco is a pretty rich, heady wine. Dark cherry/plum fruit, cloves, licorice and mocha build as the 2022 shows off its considerable depth. This is one of the few 2022s that is quite resonant texturally. The inclusion of some juice from Riserva lots is a great help. All things considered, this is a stellar showing." — Antonio Galloni (Oct 2025)

"Packed with cherry and raspberry flavors, this red is round and succulent, with a fleshy profile and a solid base of tannins. Mineral and menthol accents add depth, and the finish is fresh and long. Best from 2028 through 2042. 600 cases imported." — Bruce Sanderson (Apr 2026)

|
Named for Don Fiorino, the parish priest who united 19 growers in 1958 to create the Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative. This is their first-ever blended Riserva — 50% fruit from the nine famous crus and 50% from other top sites including Basarin, Cottà, Cole, Fasèt and San Cristoforo. Aged 30 months in 15-hectoliter French casks. As James Suckling put it: "a special release... they never made a serious blended riserva in their history."

Wine Enthusiast · 99 Points · Cellar Selection
"This is a must-have for any Nebbiolo lover, opening with aromas of reconstituted cherries bathed in sweet and savory spices and dried rosebuds. Supple tannins gently coat the palate, while the plush red fruit notes roll around with sweet tea and dried leaf notes on the sublime finish. Drink now in perpetuity." — Jeff Porter (Apr 2024)
|
|
|
Jeb Dunnuck · 98 Points
"Concentrated with licorice, fresh black cherry, cedar, and black pepper. A more brooding wine but retains its style, with leather, red plum, and balsamic. Going to be a wine to hold onto and drink over the coming two to three decades."

|
James Suckling · 98 Points
"Incredible aromas of white truffle, meat, wet earth, lightly burnt orange peel and pure fruit. Medium-bodied and very compact, with a block of silky tannins. It's very drinkable now, but will age wonderfully. This is a special release. They never made a serious blended riserva in their history."

Kerin O'Keefe · 98 Points
"The gorgeous Don Fiorino Riserva stuns with its impeccable class, structure and youthful tension. Made with 50% grapes from the nine famous crus and 50% from other top sites. It boasts aromas and flavors of ripe raspberry, star anise, cake spice and almost salty mineral notes. Linear, precise and extremely well balanced, with firm, refined tannins and fresh acidity."
