A Personal Note
Dear Artisans,
Ask a Champagne producer why they do not use the saignée method for their rosé, and you will usually get the same answer: it is too risky. The vast majority of pink Champagne is made by blending, adding a little still red wine to a finished white. It is quick, consistent and completely safe.
Laurent-Perrier does it anyway. The Cuvée Rosé is 100% Pinot Noir left to macerate on its own skins for 48 to 72 hours, drawing its colour and aroma from the fruit itself. Pull too early and the wine has no structure; wait too long and it turns heavy. There is no second attempt, because the grapes only arrive once a year.
A Basket Of Red Fruit
What you get for that trouble is a Champagne that does not taste tinted. It tastes like a basket of red fruit: strawberry, raspberry, red currant, black cherry, with a vinous weight underneath that blended rosé never quite reaches.
Our Artisans say the same thing back to us almost every time: it is the creamiest, silkiest, smoothest rosé Champagne they have ever had. The critics reach for the same words. The Tasting Panel finds “a broad palate of pure silk.” Decanter finds “the soft texture.” Vinous finds “smooth breadiness,” and Wine Spectator “the refined mousse.”
Ten Crus, At Least Five Years
It is blended from ten crus of the Montagne de Reims, notably Ambonnay, Bouzy, Louvois and Tours-sur-Marne, and aged at least five years in the cellars, the house’s own figure; Vinous and Decanter both put the current release at five or more on its lees.
Laurent-Perrier created it in 1968, in the embossed bottle inspired by King Henri IV, and it is widely called the best-selling rosé Champagne in the world.
The man responsible for that two-day window is Olivier Vigneron, who took over the cellars in 2025. He joined the house in 2004 and spent twenty years beside Michel Fauconnet, who gave Laurent-Perrier fifty-two years before retiring.
The same group owns Salon, Delamotte, de Castellane, Beaumet, Jeanmaire and Oudinot. A bottle of Salon costs four figures. The same family, the same standards, and the Cuvée Rosé is $94.99.
And in May 2024, Laurent-Perrier became the first Champagne house to receive a Royal Warrant from King Charles III.
The Season Of Toasts
From Thanksgiving through New Year’s, this is the bottle to bring. It has the body for a turkey or a duck, the acidity to cut a ripe Brie de Meaux, and enough elegance to carry the first hour on its own. Jeb Dunnuck says it would be outstanding with duck.
It is also a beautiful thing to hand somebody: it arrives in its own gift box.

In 1981, Laurent-Perrier brought back Champagne with no dosage at all. Only very ripe harvests qualify, then six years in the cellars; nearly equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Citrus, honeysuckle and a mineral streak likened to a fresh sea breeze. If the Rosé is the bottle for the toast, this is the one for the oysters.

The Bottom Line
The safe version is everywhere. This is not the safe version.
Two days of maceration instead of a minute of blending. Ten crus of Pinot Noir instead of a splash of red. What comes out is the creamiest, silkiest rosé Champagne we pour, at $94.99. The Ultra Brut is $84.99.
Cheers,
