Italy's 100-Point Barolo Legend Saved These Grapes from Extinction.
No Surprise: They Make the Best on the Planet.

Vietti sits at the top of Castiglione Falletto — the central commune of Barolo, surrounded on all sides by the most famous crus on the planet. Their reds regularly earn 100-point scores from every major critic and trade in the four-figure range at auction. In 2022, Antonio Galloni named them Vinous Winery of the Year — the highest honor in the industry.

But the part of the story that gets missed: Vietti is quietly responsible for the entire renaissance of white wine in Piedmont. In 1967, Alfredo Currado — who had married into the family and would later bottle one of the first single-cru Barolos in 1961 — produced the first ever single-varietal vinification of Arneis. The grape had nearly gone extinct. Without that bottle, Roero Arneis as a category simply wouldn't exist today. Fast-forward to the 2010s and Vietti planted their flag in Timorasso, an ancient Colli Tortonesi variety that ages like a hydrocarbon-scented cross between aged Riesling and Chablis. The 2023 just picked up 96 points from James Suckling.

Blended from Vietti's holdings in three distinct zones of the Derthona appellation. Fermented in ceramic, wood, and stainless; no malo; 10 months on fine lees with batonnage. Drinks brilliantly out of the gate — and after 2-3 years develops the signature hydrocarbon note that makes Timorasso the closest thing Italy has to aged Dry Grand Cru Riesling.

This is the bottle that single-handedly resurrected the Arneis grape — bottled by Alfredo Currado in 1967 when the variety was on the verge of extinction. Cold fermented in stainless to preserve natural CO₂, no malolactic, aged on fine lees. Pale straw with greenish reflections; fresh floral and citrus aromas with notes of almond, pear, and melon. Crisp, dry, beautifully balanced — the summer white that disappears at every dinner party.

Vietti is one of very few Italian houses that plays at the absolute top of every category they touch — Barolo cru, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Timorasso, Arneis. The Currado-Krause era has kept the family standard while adding some of the greatest crus in Piedmont. Antonio Galloni's Winery of the Year nod in 2022 wasn't a courtesy pick.
