The Vineyard

The 30-acre Rock Cairn Vineyard sits in the heart of Oakville, planted on Bale clay loam soils with a coveted western exposure. The Pelissa family has farmed it since 1938, and it's been certified organic since 1991 — ahead of nearly every Napa peer.

Here's the catch most people don't know: Rock Cairn fruit doesn't only go into Ghost Block. Nickel & Nickel — Far Niente's prestige single-vineyard label — releases a Rock Cairn Vineyard Cabernet from the same site, and it routinely retails for $130–$180 a bottle. Same dirt. Same farmer. Same gravelly loam. Different label, different markup.

The Winemaker

Priyanka French.
The Woman Who Rebuilt Signorello.

Ghost Block's winemaker is Priyanka French — the Mumbai-born, UC Davis-trained winemaker who oversaw the rebuild of Signorello Estate after the 2017 wildfires destroyed the property. The reopening of Signorello was one of Napa's defining comeback stories of the last decade, and French ran point on it.

During her tenure at Signorello, she brought legendary Napa winemaker Celia Welch on as consulting director — the same Celia Welch behind Scarecrow, Staglin, Buccella, Corra, and Keever. Working alongside Welch on those releases sharpened a winemaking style already known for restraint, balance, and Napa Cabernet that ages without going over.

In May 2025, French was named Director of Winemaking for Napa Wine Company and winemaker for Ghost Block Estate Wines. The 2023 Oakville Estate is one of her early releases under the Ghost Block label.

The Track Record
