"One of the top vintages I have had the privilege to taste, Philip Togni’s 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate starts quietly, with delicate, pretty notes of bay leaf and violets, then steadily grows into a crescendo of mixed red and black cherries and cassis. This medium- to full-bodied wine is concentrated, rich and dense yet never heavy or overdone; it’s tannic but without any harshness, exhibiting awesome length and elegance on the finish." "The Togni family’s grand vin from the 2023 vintage is a magical young cabernet sauvignon. As is family tradition here, the wine’s octane is not listed on the label, but I would bet it is below 13.5 percent. The bouquet is quite similar to their 2023 Tanbark Hill, albeit with more depth and purity, as it wafts from the glass in a nascently complex blend of cassis, dark berries, coffee bean, cigar wrapper, a beautiful foundation of Spring Mountain soil, incipient smokiness, a touch of currant leaf and a refined framing of cedary new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full bodied, seamlessly balanced and rock solid at the core, with great soil signature, firm, beautifully integrated tannins, great grip and a very, very long, impeccably balanced, refined and utterly stunning young finish. This year the wine’s cepages is eighty-two percent cabernet sauvignon, fifteen percent merlot, two percent cabernet franc and one percent petit verdot. All of the varieties were co-fermented and the wine was raised in forty percent new casks this year. This is a simply perfect young cabernet sauvignon." July 2026 |

"The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is outrageously beautiful. Graphite, lavender, crushed rocks, menthol and dark spice emerge with great reluctance. Then again, the 2023 was bottled just a few months before this tasting. It’s a vivid, explosive Cabernet that will need at least a few years to be at its most expressive. Poor set lowered yields by about 25%, resulting in an unusually potent wine here. Captivating." November 2025 · Drinking Window 2033-2053 |

"A classic Napa red with aromas of red and black currants, bark and dark mushrooms. Medium-bodied with firm and creamy tannins and a fresh finish. Chocolate on the palate. Drinkable now if you decant it, but made for aging." June 2026 |

"Mixing savory and fruit elements with a youthfully taut feel, this sports bay leaf, thyme, menthol and chestnut leaf notes, plus damson plum and red currant coulis fruit, all supported by a wiry, chiseled frame. A long bolt of iron emerges through the finish alongside a conifer echo. A beautiful example of this decidedly distinct and not-for-everyone style." August 2025 · Best from 2030 through 2050 |

"Tanbark Hill Vineyard" Cabernet 2023
Tanbark Hill is not a declassified afterthought. It comes off a three-acre block of the same estate with slightly richer soil, it spends the same twenty months in the same forty percent new French oak, and then barrels headed for the Estate wine get moved across if they are showing more generously. It is the same cellar making the same decision Bordeaux makes every year.
Galloni was unusually direct about this one: “quite simply one of the finest Tanbark Hills I can remember tasting.” At ninety-nine ninety-nine it is the cheapest door into this estate that exists.

"Coming from a three-acre parcel in a slight swale with richer, less stony soils, Togni’s 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Tanbark Hill Vineyard includes a definite herbal edge, encompassing bay leaf and a hint of capsicum, plus a comforting mix of ripe cherries and cassis. It’s medium- to full-bodied, silky-textured and smooth, finishing with soft tannins and ample length." Drink 2027-2040 |

"The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Tanbark Hill Vineyard immediately announces an important vintage at Togni. Dynamic and layered in the glass, with terrific persistence, the Tanbark Hill is especially fine in 2023. Hints of licorice, sage, rosemary and dried flowers lend tons of complexity. This is quite simply one of the finest Tanbark Hills I can remember tasting." November 2025 · Drink 2025-2035 |

"An absolutely riveting Cabernet showing a deep ruby-purple colour. Gorgeously fragrant at the cork’s pull with terrific violets and loads of black currants and dark dried herbs. Medium to full-bodied with chiselled, precise tannins that build and build on the palate… Philip Togni remarked that this vintage reminds him of St. Julien. Indeed, it is incredibly aromatic, elegant, and structured, and it is also a complete and seamless wine." Tasted at the winery, February 2024 |

"The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is an outrageously beautiful wine and also one of the wines of the year. A soaring, exotic bouquet makes a strong opening statement. Pliant and creamy, with mind-blowing textural finesse, the 2021 dazzles from start to finish. Hard candy, mint, lavender, Kirsch and spice linger on the close. The 2021 possesses mind-blowing purity and exceptional finesse." December 2023 · Drink 2031-2051 |

"Possibly the best wine produced here since the terrific 2001 or 1991, Togni’s 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate comes across as rather cool and fresh, with gentle grace notes of mountain sage lending nuance to the predominantly red-berried fruit, tinged with cassis, mint and cedar. It’s medium to full-bodied, concentrated and firm, with silky tannins and refreshing acids providing ample structure and amplifying the lingering, elegant finish." July 3rd, 2024 · Drink 2027-2050 |

"Densely packed and reserved in style, offering a tightly coiled core of red and black currant fruit wrapped in a sheath of iron and backed by savory, menthol, rose petal and iris notes. The seriously grippy finish shows taut but fine-grained tannins working in unison alongside fresh acidity. Will need considerable time to unfurl, rewarding those with patience and a love of this mountain-hewn, old-school style." April 2024 · Best from 2029 through 2045 · 1,020 cases made |

"Tanbark Hill Vineyard" Cabernet 2021
The same vintage Vinous crowned, one label down, at a fifth of the price. Galloni noted that the 2021 Tanbark got “some excess fruit that would have been used in the main label” and said outright that in this vintage it “gives a very good idea of the quality and style of the Grand Vin.”
Ninety-five from Decanter with a window that runs to 2060. Six hundred and ten cases made. Three bottles left here.

"100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged up to 20 months. The tannins are quite assertive at this young stage, in classic Spring Mountain Togni fashion, with a fine granularity about them. The wine feels quite complete, teeming with pure dark berry fruits and very fresh. Deeply mineral-tinged dark berries and black currants are framed by a wine with noticeable coiled-up energy and tension." February 2024 · Drink 2025-2060 |

"The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Tanbark Hill Vineyard is one of the most potent vintages of this wine I can remember tasting. Dense and textured, the 2021 shows ample dark fruit and complex earthy/savory undertones that add balance… Readers will find a wine of breadth, power and character. In this vintage, the Tanbark Hill gives a very good idea of the quality and style of the Grand Vin." December 2023 · Drink 2026-2036 |

"This offers a typical Spring Mountain bouquet of red currant and red cherry notes laced liberally with potpourri, cast iron and bramble hints, while savory and menthol accents in the background add a fresh edge. Not shy on grip through the finish." September 2023 · Best from 2025 through 2035 · 610 cases |

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2021 Tanbark Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon skips out of the glass with bright, cheery scents of black raspberries, redcurrants, and cassis leading to hints of pencil lead, menthol, and mossy tree bark. The medium-bodied palate is soft and refreshing, with bags of energetic red and black berry layers, finishing with a savory lift." June 2024 |
