Some might think of Sauvignon Blanc in a negative light — overly grassy, not serious — this bottle will shatter that bias and then some. Poured blind, it reads like the crystalline, pristine complexity of grand cru Chablis wrapped in the perfume and layers of premier cru Puligny-Montrachet. That is not marketing flourish; it's geology. Daulny's slopes in Verdigny sit on the same rocky Kimmeridgian limestone — the famous "terres blanches" — and his importer admits that walking the steepest parcels, "you could easily mistake it for Grand Cru Chablis."

Here is the comparison I keep coming back to: the cult Didier Dagueneau bottlings, at a third of the price. Dagueneau turned Loire Sauvignon Blanc into $120–$200 trophies — wines of silex smoke, tension, and decades of life. Etienne Daulny farms the same class of ancient soils a few miles away, harvests by hand, ferments with native yeasts, blocks malolactic for nerve, and slips a portion into well-seasoned barrels for breadth — the same obsessive, terroir-first playbook, minus the fame tax. His importer has tasted Daulny vintages 10, 20, even 30 years old that remain "as vivid and fresh as if time had stood still."
