A master of the understated style — crystalline purity, precision, and chiseled form.

Benoît learned viticulture on his aunt's plots and is now one of the Côte de Beaune's most acclaimed stylists. His six-hectare domaine is largely in Puligny-Montrachet, where he specializes in seductively mineral, finely textured expressions of the appellation. The wines mature mostly in large foudres, with grapes pressed as uncrushed whole bunches.

His older brother is Arnaud Ente — widely regarded as a genius of Chardonnay and one of the very top talents of Meursault, whose wines now trade for $2,000–$5,000 a bottle when they appear at all. While Arnaud's reputation was established long ago, Benoît has undeniably attained star status on his own. Like Arnaud, he picks notoriously early to preserve vital acidity, and in vintage after vintage his instincts prove spot on.

The Cult Aligoté · A Critic's Secret

2024 Bourgogne Aligoté "Cuvée Antichône"

From old-vine Aligoté on a single parcel in Saint-Aubin called Antichône. Aligoté in Ente's hands has very little to do with the simple summer aperitif that the grape is sometimes dismissed as — this is a wine of nervy energy, oyster-shell minerality, and lemon-balm cut that has been called the best Aligoté in Burgundy outside of d'Auvenay (Lalou Bize-Leroy) and Coche-Dury. The producer's own "discovery wine" — the bottle sommeliers reach for to introduce diners to the domaine.

The Village in Disguise · Premier-Cru Quality, Bourgogne Label

2024 Bourgogne Blanc

Declassified parcels on the slope just below Puligny — the appellation only allows Bourgogne Blanc on the label, but the soils, the vineyard work and the cellar treatment are identical to his Puligny village. A wine that has consistently outclassed other producers' Premier Crus at hundreds more. The single most strategic buy in the lineup — the cult equivalent of finding a Leflaive village label that drinks like a 1er Cru.

A blend of Ente's holdings across the Puligny village level — multiple lieux-dits including the parcels immediately downslope from Truffière. The wine that most cleanly expresses the Ente house style: chiseled minerality, lemon-pith cut, a long saline finish that recalls Coche-Dury's Meursault village in proportion. The Burghound nod confirms what the trade already knows.
