Brian Talley of Talley Vineyards - Arroyo Grande Valley, Edna Valley and SLO Coast
A Personal Note

Dear Artisans,

Earlier this month, Brian Talley loaded a truck at his winery in Arroyo Grande and drove it up to Mountain View: eleven wines, most of them micro-production bottlings you can only buy at the winery door, poured for twenty lucky Artisans at our table.

The room did not hold back. By the end of the night you had bought 36 bottles of The Adobe, 30 bottles of Rosemary's Vineyard Pinot Noir, and 30 bottles of Rosemary's Vineyard Chardonnay, and tons more in one evening.

So we called Brian.

The Truck Comes Back Friday

He is loading up again and driving north this Friday, September 4th: more of all three winners, plus more winery-door exclusives he is setting aside for Artisans. Order now and your bottles are claimed from the load before it arrives. Everything else below ships from our shelves today.

What The Critics Call A Superstar
“The one superstar for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Edna Valley is Talley Vineyards. Brian Talley and his team continue to turn out extremely elegant, European-style wines. He has always made wonderful wine, but these are among the very best I have ever tasted from him.”
— Robert Parker
“Without knowing, you could easily think it's double the price. Talley's winning combination of beautifully ripe yet distinctly cool-climate fruit, no-tricks winemaking, and very fair pricing makes his Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs well worth seeking out.”
— Lisa Perrotti-Brown
“It has been a no-brainer to count Talley as one of the New World's top producers of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for years now.”
— Josh Raynolds, Vinous
The Man Behind The Wheel

Brian Talley is a third-generation farmer and a second-generation winegrower. His grandfather Oliver started growing vegetables in the Arroyo Grande Valley in 1948; his father Don planted the first vines on a hillside too steep for crops in 1982 and founded the winery in 1986.

Under Brian, Talley has been poured at the White House more than once, and in 2006 the 2002 Rosemary's Chardonnay was named Best California Chardonnay at the thirtieth anniversary of the Judgment of Paris. He co-founded the World of Pinot Noir festival and led the creation of the San Luis Obispo Coast AVA, the coolest in California. And when his wines come to Mountain View, he drives them up himself.

The wine the room fought over: a tiny-production reserve Pinot Noir blended from the best blocks of Rosemary's and Rincon, named for the 1860s adobe that still stands at the heart of the estate. Aged 15 months in 50% new French oak, it is the most complete Pinot Noir Talley makes.

“Smoky black cherries, dried herbs, spice, iodine, and some meaty, floral nuances all shine in this beauty, and it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, a pure, layered, incredibly elegant mouthfeel, fine tannins, and a great finish.” (Aug 2024)
The Wine Independent
95+ Points
“It springs from the glass with vibrant notes of red and black cherries, red roses, and lavender oil, followed by an earthy perfume of moss, damp soil, and garrigue. The elegantly styled, medium-bodied palate delivers intense red berry and earthy flavors with a racy backbone and silky tannins, finishing long and fragrant.” — Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Oct 2024)

The most alluring and complex Pinot Noir in the Talley portfolio. The beautifully textured palate is equal parts lacy and sumptuous while simultaneously displaying the most tensile elasticity of the range. It culminates in a long, layered finish framed by detailed, fine-grained tannins entwined with crystalline salinity.” — Matthew Luczy (Dec 2025)
Jeb Dunnuck

“It's medium-bodied and has a beautiful sense of purity and precision, ripe tannins, and clean, focusing acidity. There's a Vosne-Romanée-like complexity and depth here, and it should have solid longevity. Drink 2025-2037.” (Sep 2025)
