In the rarefied world of New World Pinot Noir, two names live on a tier of their own: Rajat Parr — the cult sommelier turned winemaker featured at the center of the SOMM film franchise — and Sashi Moorman, the Sta. Rita Hills winemaker whose Burgundy-trained palate set a new standard for site-driven California Pinot and Chardonnay. Their partnership produces Domaine de la Côte, Sandhi, and Piedrasassi — some of the most respected and collected California wines of the modern era.
Twelve years ago, Raj and Sashi did something audacious. They went to Oregon — to one of its most historic vineyards, Seven Springs, planted in 1982 in the Eola-Amity Hills — and took over winemaking at Evening Land Vineyards. Their winemaking consultant: Dominique Lafon of Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault, one of the most worshipped names in white Burgundy. Three of the world's most exacting Pinot and Chardonnay minds, one vineyard, fully biodynamic, own-rooted 1982 vines. The wines that resulted have changed how the wine world thinks about Oregon.

From the SOMM III Documentary
Raj & Sashi's Domaine de la Côte won a blind Judgment-of-Paris recreation tasting against First Growths and Grand Cru Burgundies.
In SOMM III (the third film in the SOMM documentary series), critics blind-tasted a recreation of the original 1976 Judgment of Paris. Among the wines pitted against First Growth Bordeaux and Burgundy Grand Cru: Domaine de la Côte Pinot Noir and Sandhi Chardonnay — both Raj & Sashi projects. They won the tasting. That is the level of pedigree behind the bottle below.

Wine Spectator has noticed. Twice they put an Evening Land Pinot Noir on the global Top 100 list. Once they put the Chardonnay there. The 2023 Seven Springs Pinot Noir is the strongest critic profile they've produced in a decade. If past is prologue, this is the fourth.

Seven Springs is one of the historic vineyards of the Willamette Valley — own-rooted vines planted in 1982, biodynamic farming, the original Eola-Amity Hills site that Raj & Sashi staked their Oregon project on. Aged 16 months in neutral French oak (zero new oak, no make-up), then finished in concrete to preserve transparency. The 13.1% alcohol is the key — this is a featherweight, vibrant, electric Pinot Noir that drinks like a Volnay 1er Cru from a great cool vintage. Every major critic graded it 91 to 94 with extraordinary descriptors.
