(Tuscany, Italy) - [JS 93] [VM 93]
About the Wine:
Cantine Bonacchi is a fledgling estate for Montalcino, where it has become a must-know property for Brunello lovers in recent years. A remarkable bottling from Bonacchi’s most prized vineyards in Montalcino, this has a concentration and focus that comes as much from its hillside terroir.
The 2015 Bonacchi Molino del Piano Brunello was crafted by young winemaker Ivan Misuri, who recently won the career-making Giulio Gambelli award. Named for Italy’s "great master of Sangiovese," it’s one of the most prestigious honors a vintner can win in the cradle of Brunello.

Ratings & Reviews
"I like the cherry and peach character to this with a hint of raw meat. Medium to full body, creamy tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink or hold." (9/20/2020)
93 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Molino del Piano bristles with earthy minerals, savory herbs, and animal tones, with sour cherry and hints of dried strawberries in the background. On the palate, soft textures give way to a zesty expression, as brisk acids energize a mix of spiced cherry, and inner florals, with earthy mineral tones forming toward the finale. The finish is long and spicy, resonating on floral-laced red fruits and a buzz of lingering acids. The 2015 Molino del Piano is a bit beastly, like an unruly teenager, but I must admit that I like it quite a bit." - Eric Guido (4/2020)
Santi Solane Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore 2016
(Veneto, Italy)
(Veneto, Italy)
About the Winery:
Santi Valpolicella Classico Superiore is a “ripasso” method Valpolicella; meaning that following primary fermentation the wine sees a second fermentation with the addition of Amarone grapes and skins, creating a richer, more complex and more exciting final wine.
Terroir: Santi Solane is sourced from estate vineyards within the original Valpolicella appellation of Valpolicella Classico.
Vinification: When primary fermentation is complete in early winter, grapes, skins and pomace from Santi’s Amarone are added to the vats. The additional sugars from the Amarone trigger a second fermentation which adds additional layers of complexity, rich fruit and structure. The wine is blended and then aged for more 3-5 months in small oak cask followed by an additional 12 months in larger neutral casks prior to bottling.
Tasting Notes:
The Solane Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore is a wine strongly linked to the territory and therefore of great character. It has a beautiful and intense ruby color; the typical, clean and complex scent has intense hints of fresh red fruit and maraschino jam, wrapped in hints of vanilla. The taste is warm and frank, balanced, with an elegant spicy and toasted bottom. It has a strong personality thanks to the distinct elegance and subtlety of perfumes, to the flavor and persistence in the mouth. Great and pleasant when young, it improves over time.
Food Pairing:
Accompanies cold cuts, medium-aged cheeses, soups, and lighter meats

91 Points - James Suckling:
"A red with attractive fruit and walnut undertones, delivering plenty of character and enjoyment as a simple rosso. It’s medium-bodied with firm yet creamy-textured tannins and a delicious finish. Drink now." (8/2020)
"This wine pours from the bottle with ruby intensity and bright luminosity. The Poggio Nardone 2018 Rosso di Montalcino offers ripe berry notes with cherry and blackberry up at the front. The rest of the bouquet is very simple, following a steady Sangiovese playlist of crushed flower, spice and forest floor. You get that characteristic sour cherry note on the close, to enjoy with a serving of tagliatelle and ragù. Some 10,000 bottles were made." - Monica Larner (Oct 2020)
Tenuta di Nozzole Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2020
(Tuscany, Italy) - [WE 90] [WS 90]
(Tuscany, Italy) - [WE 90] [WS 90]
Located north of the village of Greve in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, the Nozzole estate covers a striking, rugged, mountainous area of about 1,000 acres at 300 meters in elevation.
Notes from the Winemaker:
In order to obtain concentration and complexity in the wine, yields are kept low. The grapes are hand harvested, destemmed and crushed. Fermentation is initiated on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by a maceration period of 15-20 days to draw out color and tannins. The wine is racked into no steel tanks for malolactic fermentation before aging for 16 months in large Slavonian oak vats and in bottle a minimum of 3 months before release. The wine is bottled on the estate.
Tasting Notes:
Crisp, ripe, red berry and cherry aromas and flavors and earthy undernotes are shaped by vibrant, fresh acidity and a backbone of firm yet elegant tannins.
Food Pairing:
Pairs very well with meats, poultry and cheeses.
Points of Distinction:
- A classic, traditional Chianti from the Folonari family, making wine since the 1700s
- Matured for 24 months in oak barrels and 3 months in bottle before release
- Estate bottled, from a highly regarded estate
Ratings & Reviews
"The nose balances the sweetness of cherries, strawberries and vanilla with more savory notes of graphite and wild herbs. On the palate, hibiscus and cranberry bring out the sourness of the cherries, before a salsa finish of chili and tomatoes. Polished tannins create an unctuous texture." - DC (Dec 2023)
90 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Leads with aromas of earth, tomato leaf and asparagus, followed by flavors of cherry, plum and loam. Dense and lively, with a complex, lingering finish. Rustic and savory, yet distinctive. Drink now through 2033. 150,000 cases made, 24,000 cases imported." - BS (Oct 2023)

90 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The 2022 Barbera d'Asti Battaglione shows an inky dark appearance with bold fruit flavors of blackberry and baked plum. Fruit comes from a site with reddish clay soils and full sunlight from southern exposures. This wine is all about primary intensity and there's no beating around the bush. It shows a soft and opulent texture thanks to four months in neutral oak and delivers a lot of upfront personality. It's an easy-drinking and certainly very charming wine." - Monica Larner (Aug 2023)

Ratings & Reviews
"Fruity and creamy red with walnut and dark-chocolate aromas and flavors. Just a hint of coffee bean. It’s full and flavorful. Like a baby Barolo. Needs time to soften. Better after 2021." (May, 2020)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The Poderi Aldo Conterno 2017 Langhe Nebbiolo Il Favot delivers dark fruit intensity with cherry, blackberry and plum. This entry-level wine throws a lot of fruit out there, all delivered in a rather random and haphazard manner. This is a fun and informal Nebbiolo to pair with grilled meats or simple pasta dishes. Some 10,000 bottles were made." - Monica Larner (23rd Jul 2020)
