Description

About the Estate:
Peciña was founded in 1992 by La Rioja Alta’s long-time vineyard manager, Pedro Peciña. Pedro comes from a long line of grape growers, and grapes are in his blood. His family held 20 ha of great old vineyards around San Vincente, and they would form the basis of his new estate. Top vineyard sites and labor-intensive, largely organic viticulture provide some of the appellation’s best raw materials.
From the beginning, Pedro's winemaking has been utterly classic, and he uses his American oak barrels subtly. With an average age of 5-6 years, the wood is largely neutral, providing textural richness, but only background flavor notes. The winery embraces long aging in neutral casks, regular rackings to build texture, and extended bottle aging before release.

Ratings & Reviews:

93 Points - Wine Advocate:

I love the textbook nose of the 2016 Señorío de P. Peciña Reserva, as it is earthy, spicy and developed, with notes of leather and vanilla and a touch of smoke and brick dust. It has ripe fruit without excess and a medium-bodied palate with great balance and freshness. It has pungent flavors and is powerful and ripe without excess at 14.5% alcohol and with polished chalky tannins. This matured in American oak barrels for 36 months, during which time it was racked every six months.

92 Points - Vinous:
The 2016 Reserva Señorío de P. Peciña is a blend of 95% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano and 2% Garnacha from the Sonsierra area in Rioja Alta. Aged for 36 months in American oak barrels, this garnet wine offers sour cherry, candied fruits and mushroom notes over an oaky layer, with hints of coconut and vanilla. Dry and supple on the palate, the faintly chalky texture leads to a compact flow. The 2016 is a terroir-driven wine. (Drink between 2024-2032)
