About the Domaine:
In 1818, Nicolas François Billecart and his wife Elisabeth Salmon founded the house of Billecart-Salmon in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, which now stands as the oldest continuously family-owned and operated house in Champagne. The estate is currently managed by the family’s seventh generation, brothers François and Antoine Roland-Billecart, while the cellars lie in the hands of Florent Nys.
After 33 years, François Domi has handed over the baton of Chief Winemaker to Florent, who has been working as an apprentice under the watchful eye of François since 2005, is now ready to take over the reins.
About this Wine:
This wines comes from 25 parcels in the chalky soils of the five Grand Cru vineyards of the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Oger and Mesnil-sur-Oger.
Partial malolactic fermentation is completed depending on each wine's acidity levels followed by up to 5 years of aging. The cuvée is a blend of four vintages.
94 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"From Grand Cru villages on the Côte des Blancs, this Champagne is beautifully mineral and taut. It has white fruits and intense citrus giving texture and crispness. This is a fine wine, ready to drink." - Roger Voss (Dec 2023)
93 Points - James Suckling:
“Very clean and creamy blanc de blancs showing notes of sliced apples, pie crust, lemons, oyster shells and thyme. Lovely freshness and balance, with fine, creamy bubbles and a rounded yet dry finish. Base wine 2017 with 23% of reserve wine. 1.2g/L dosage. Drink now." (Aug 2024)
93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"The current release of the NV Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut is based on the 2015 vintage and pours a pale straw color. The nose is clean and pure, with a sun-kissed ripeness, and reveals fresh aromatics of candied green apple, lime, and bread dough. The mousse is elegant, and the wine is ripe, with a rounded feel, and fresh with ripe green apple, lemon-lime, and chalk, followed by a balanced and fairly long finish. It is straightforward, approachable, and classic. Drink 2022-2037." - Audrey Frick (Nov 2022)
93 Points - Wine & Spirits Magazine:
"Blended from fruit grown in several grand cru villages of the Côte des Blancs, with an emphasis on Avize, this is a beautiful green-gold color, a wine fragrant with scents of spring flowers. It balances full-bodied richness with racy acidity, both expansive and mineral-tight. It finishes on a scent that brings to mind oyster shells, and calls out for a dozen freshly shucked Belons." (Dec 2016)
93 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is showing beautifully today, with aromas of confit citrus, pear, herbs, orchard fruits, pastry and brioche. Medium to full-bodied, it is round and supple with the delicate, bright tension that is the signature of Billecart-Salmon. Perfectly balanced and offering a vinous, toasty and elegantly long finish, it's based on the 2017 vintage with 23% from 2016. Vinified and matured in stainless steel, it spent five years on the lees in bottle before being disgorged with a dosage of 1.7 grams per liter." - Yohan Castaing (Oct 2024)
90 Points - Wine Spectator:
"A fresh, open-knit Champagne, with a lacy bead, offering an accessible range of Asian pear, lemon pith and biscuit notes. White blossom and mineral accents show on the finish. Disgorged spring-summer 2023 (My Origin 171268). Drink now." - Alison Napjus (Dec 2024)
