About the Domaine:
Domaine Gautheron is located in Fleys, a village of 150 inhabitants surrounded by Chablis eastern hills. It covers 30 hectares of vines under three AOP: Petit Chablis, Chablis and Chablis Premier Cru on four climats: Vaucoupin, Les Fourneaux, Mont de Milieu and L’Homme Mort.
This estate is a family owned and operated business for more than seven generations. Today Cyril Gautheron, supported by his father Alain, is making some of the appellation’s finest wines.
Cyril Gautheron focusses on the expression of terroir to make graceful wines, which respect the crispy and traditional characteristics of Chablis. From the classical Chablis to the crystal-cut Premier Cru climat wines, the Domaine is highly recognized among wine international trade.
Cyril’s wines can be found in the world’s best restaurants and bars: Hakkasan in London, Gordon Ramsay’s Le Pressoir d’Argent in Bordeaux, and Maria Loca in Paris, just to name a few.
About this Wine:
Gautheron’s Chablis “Vieilles Vignes” 2023 offers smoother edges. It comes from old vines, and it’s raised two-thirds in stainless steel and one-third in barrels. This wine is made to be slightly richer and rounder than their Emeraude cuvée, with a discreet hint of oak that rounds out the minerality without obscuring it. It succeeds beautifully, delivering an elegant wine that also has good supporting acidity.
Made from some of the oldest vines on the property (60-70 years old), on Kimmeridgian soil, this wine is fermented in tank and then spends several months in oak. It has plenty of saline and mineraled notes, as well as fresh, floral aromas and appley fruit, while a touch of vanilla adds complexity on the palate. Delightful wine.
Ratings & Reviews
92 Points - Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy:
50-70 years old vines. Mid lemon yellow. Fuller bodied than Emeraude but largely with the same flavour profile, and again the sense of classical Chablis coquillage at the finish. Drink from 2028-2033.
91 Points - James Suckling:
Stone fruit, green citrus and orchard fruit on the nose. Good intensity, with crispness, saltiness and a minerally, linear finish. Aged one-third in old barrels. Drink now.
