About:
Domaine Comte Senard had an auspicious start in 1857 when Jules Senard, the great grandfather of current owner Philippe Senard, created the Corton- Clos des Meix monopole. Since that time, the Domaine has continued its acquisition of property in prestigious appellations, with current holdings of 22 acres of land. Passed down for 5 generations, since 2005 it has been under the management of Lorraine Senard. The Domaine produces wines that are seductive representations of the power of Corton, built to age with finesse and grace.
HARVEST
Manual harvested & carefully sorted in the vineyard and cellar.
VINIFICATION
Whole-cluster, ambient yeast cold prefermentation soaking for 3 days, vinification for 3 weeks with pump-overs to extract precious components and increase complexity before 18 months of aging in 350L barrels with 50% new oak.
TASTING NOTES
Complex aromas of raspberry, strawberry, cherry and blackberry with hints of pistachio, leather and truffles. Full-bodied, robust yet refined with very pleasant tannins, earth and spices flavors.Ratings & Reviews:
95 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"This is the vineyard of happiness,' according to Lorraine Senard, 'we never have problems with this parcel.' The grapes produced a lovely wine in 2022, with a ripe, sweet mulberry fruit aroma with hints of earth and chocolate, a supple and dense yet relatively tannic texture and impressive persistence on the finish. The domaine owns 0.70 hectares here, just down-slope from Bressandes. The grapes are entirely fermented as whole clusters before ageing over two winters in cask (70% new)". - Charles Curtis MW (Nov 2023)
90 Points - Burghound:
"This is also exceptionally floral in character with its spicy, earthy and sauvage-infused aromas of various red berries. There is better size, weight and detail to the energetic medium-bodied flavors that terminate in an equally austere, rustic and more structured finale. At least some patience will be required. (Drink starting 2030) - Allen Meadows (Apr 2024)
