About the Winery:
Domaine des Comtes Lafon has been in the Lafon family since 1865. Dominique Lafon took over the domaine in 1985. It is comprised of approximately 14 hectares situated in the communes of Volnay, Monthélie, Chassagne-Montrachet, and of course, Meursault, where the domaine and its monopole vineyard Clos de la Barre are located.
All the vineyards are cultivated biodynamically and they proudly own every Premier Cru in Meursault. Dominique retired at the end of 2021, handing over the reigns to his daughter, Léa and nephew, Pierre, who as part of the fifth generation of winemakers in the Lafon family, will continue this domaine’s superstar reputation not only in Burgundy but throughout the world. Dominique does, however, remain active as an advisor.
About this Wine:
The 1er Cru Porusots is an east-facing vineyard with deep clay soils. The site produces full-bodied, ample, and well-structured wines, with ripe citrus, orchard and exotic fruit, white florals, and mineral depth.
Ratings & Reviews
95 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"The Lafon Porusots in 2023 is creamy and dense, offering aromas of apricot and quince with a floral note and a bit of spice. The texture is buttery, but balanced with fresh acidity for the vintage, carrying the wine to an impressively long finish. The grapes come from nearly a hectare acquired from the former René Manuel estate in 2010. This massive wine will show better with five to seven years in bottle and should drink over the next 25." – Charles Curtis, MW (May 2024)
93-95 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2023 Meursault Les Porusots 1er Cru has an effervescent bouquet with orange zest and yellow plum scents, under which lies crushed stone and hints of almond. The palate is very well balanced with a bright bead of acidity. Touches of marzipan and white chocolate render the finish very seductive. A persistent spiciness lingers. Superb." – Neal Martin (Jan 2025)
92-94 Points - Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy:
"The last 1er Cru to pick, it has the structure to hold on. Mid lemon yellow. Plenty of fruit with a little cream, but without the honeysuckle. A wealth of concentrated white stone fruit, good acidity. This holds together very well. A little touch of barrel toast at the finish doesn’t do any harm. Drink from 2030-2036." (Oct 2024)
91-94 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"This is also ripe yet cool with its blend of green fruit, spice and broad array of citrus elements. There is notably more volume, though a bit less refinement, to the rich and exceptionally generous medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract on the markedly powerful, muscular and impressively long finale. This is excellent and very Porusots in character and a wine that should age accordingly." (Jun 2025)
91-93 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The 2023 Meursault 1er Cru Porusots is a touch more structured than the Bouchères and Goutte d'Or this year, exhibiting aromas of pear, confit citrus, freshly baked bread and hazelnuts, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and saline palate that concludes with chalky grip." – William Kelley (Jan 2025)
