About the Winery:
Joseph Matrot (1881-1963), the grandson of owners of a family wine estate in Puligny-Montrachet and Blagny, lived with his wife, Marguerite Amoignon, and their three children at Château d’Evelle. Marguerite also owned a beautiful wine estate in Meursault. In 1914, they took up residence in Marguerite’s family home, which is today the seat of Domaine Matrot, and decided to develop and extend the estate. Over the course of generations, Domaine Matrot continued to expand with the addition of new vineyard holdings, and in 2000 began harvesting the vineyards organically. Today, sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot are in charge of the management and winemaking of the Domaine, ensuring that the family-run domaine will be in good hands for many years to come. Observing careful cultivation and vinification techniques, Domaine Matrot wines offer purity of fruit and terroir-driven character.
Tasting Notes:
A floral, apple skin nose, and on the palate, very floral and aromatic, too. Lush, ripe Bing cherry on the palate, and strawberry with sugar on top along with blackberry, too. Nice back acids which give the wine a juicy finish.

Ratings & Reviews
93 Points - Wine & Spirits:
“This pinot noir grows in the same block as the chardonnay vines for Matrot’s Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru, high up the hill, at the border with Puligny. The thin soils leave the vines in close contact with limestone, providing a wine with buzzing energy and a delicate frame. This is a beautiful, old-fashioned Burgundy, its scent parallel to equally oldfashioned roses, its sleek raspberry and black-cherry flavors lasting with textural grace. The silken weave draws you into a wine that feels completely integrated, lovely to drink now and over the next five years.”
92 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The 2018 Blagny 1er Cru La Pièce Sous Le Bois is promising, unfurling in the glass to reveal notes of cherries, berries, warm spices and forest floor. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and elegantly layered, with refined tannins, a lively spine of acidity and a long, mineral finish." - William Kelley (Feb 2020)
90-93 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
A more restrained nose combines notes of ripe and fresh black raspberry, warm earth and wood toast. The delicious, round and plump medium weight flavors possess better mid-palate density while exhibiting touches of austerity and rusticity on the mildly warm finale. This should benefit from a few years of patience.
89-91 Points - Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy:
"The darkest colour in the cellar. Ripe plums on the nose. This is fatter than expected, not quite the same density in the middle, agreeable but not quite the grip." (Oct 2019)
