About the Winery:
Le Ragnaie is a dynamic Montalcino estate which has steadily risen to prominence since its current owner, Riccardo Campinoti purchased the estate in 2002. The estate’s name, Le Ragnaie, derives from the word for “bird-catching nets” which were historically used in Italy for catching small birds which were considered a culinary delicacy in the past.
The estate was originally founded in 1991 and today Le Ragnaie winery extends over 28 hectares in the county of Montalcino - originally based around old vineyards at the high elevation Passo del Lume Spento, over the years they have purchased parcels of Fornace in Castelnuovo dell’Abate in the southeast, in the famed Monotosoli in the north, and in the cru that is also among the highest in the appellation, Petroso, which is just below the walls of the town center of Montalcino. Their land is cultivated with vines and olive groves and they follow the guidelines for Organic Agriculture.

Ratings & Reviews
94 Points - Vinous Media:
"More savory than sweet, the 2021 Brunello di Montalcino blossoms in the glass with nuances of wild strawberry, rose petals, mint and white smoke. It is lifted and graceful in feel, with round textures and pretty red berry fruits elevated by tantalizing acidity. A subtle mineral crunch mingles with delicate tannins as the 2021 echoes with a wild berry resonance. This understated yet beautiful Brunello benefited from the inclusion of juice from both the Fornace and Petroso vineyards." - Eric Guido (Nov 2025)
94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"A medium red hue introduces the 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino, which opens with rosemary, Mediterranean herbs, ripe cherries, and forest earth. The palate is medium to full-bodied and classic in style, with well-defined tannins, bright acidity, and a long finish that keeps it fresh and balanced in this complete vintage. It’s showing very well today and should drink beautifully over the next 15 years or more. Drink 2026-2041." - Audrey Frick (Feb 2026)
94 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The Le Ragnaie 2021 Brunello di Montalcino delivers terrific character with an especially lively quality that gives the wine lift, tension and clear verticality. Fermented in cement and aged for 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks, it reflects the estate’s artisanal philosophy, favoring personality and expression over excessive polish. Grilled herb and mint linger on the finish, while the palate remains well balanced, fresh and energetic over a medium- to full-bodied texture. This is a Brunello that may take risks stylistically (and not every vintage is perfect), but it rewards with authenticity and character. This is a release of 35,000 bottles." - Monica Larner (Jan 2026)
93 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"Still very primary, almost naive in aromas, Le Ragnaie’s ‘compilation’ Brunello opens quietly with nutmeg and sarsaparilla. On the palate, however, it speaks deftly of its diverse plots in a harmonious whole. A ripe, rich fruit quality suggestive of warmer sites is offset by a crunchiness from cooler pockets. Ringing with fruit purity, it is full yet vibrant, and the pliant tannins are deeply embedded. Closing accents of juniper and herb blossoms hint at what is to come. While this should be approachable upon release, a few more months in bottle is justified." - Michaela Morris (Nov 2025)
