About the Winery:
Domaine Emmanuel Rouget is an essential reference for any lover of Burgundy wines. Heir to the genius of his uncle Henri Jayer, known as the "Pope of Pinot Noir" (Jayer passed away in 2006, he was the creator of some truly magnificent Vosne-Romanée wines), Guillaume Rouget and his wife Laure Guilloteau purchased the estate in 2023 and began Les Petits Lieux as a personal project on Jayer's estate.
"Les Petits Lieux is an unpretentious name, meaning "The Small Places". It feels fitting for an inconspicuous set of modest buildings sitting at one of the Vosne-Romanée entries from Burgundy's D974 road. Here, Henri Jayer, the legendary Burgundy producer once lived and made wine.
In 2023, 17 years after his passing, first dibs to buy the property were offered to family members and the great-nephew of Henri, Guillaume Rouget, along with his wife Laure Guilloteau, invested. The project's name, Les Petits Lieux, comes from a quote from Uncle Henri referencing Burgundy's climats, or vineyards: "The winemaker must be modest, or better, humble in the face of so much richness concentrated in such a small place." The key word is small – describing Burgundy's terroirs in general and lining up neatly with Laure and Guillaume's project, made in Henri's small cellar and focusing on small-production wines.
About this Wine:
Hand-harvested and 100% destemmed. Vinification takes place in concrete and stainless steel tanks. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Aged for a year and a half in Burgundy barrels, without new oak. The highly regarded "Longeroies" vineyard, composed of clay, white oolitic limestone, and limestone, borders the "Clos du Roy," from which it takes its name.
Tasting Notes:
A sublime approach to Marsannay, showcasing an intense and well-structured Pinot Noir, perfectly reflecting the northern climate. The "Petits Lieux" wine is all about finesse, both aromatically and on the palate: ripe raspberry, blueberry, undergrowth, licorice, and fine leather. A velvety, flavorful mouthfeel with luscious tannins and a lingering freshness.
Ratings & Reviews
90-91 Points - Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy:
"Older vines, around 50 years, Laure’s favourite in 2023, and excellent in 2024. There is a fine crimson ruby colour, with a depth of fruit on the nose, mixed red berries, discreet but fine. A clearly classy fruit behind on the palate, and a fine sensual but precise finish. Drink from 2028-2032." (Nov 2025)
